Jules Leon designed and built his own recording studio, Easy Street Studios, and now records local bands and student musicians. “I’m a nerd,” he says. “I love to build things. I’m a craftsman, I guess. I enjoy working with my hands. I’m not the the type to play sports or do that kind of thing, or be a lawyer or a doctor. I’m more a person who likes to tinker and build things for myself.” A hands-on builder since he made his first hot rod model at age 5, Jules crafted everything in the studio he could himself, including the desks. Using the skills he learned in audio engineering school, he shaped the studio to optimize the acoustics. What he couldn’t make, including the computers and other gear, he saved up and bought. Now he’s an independent businessman. “I knew that I could do it and I was dedicated all the way,” he says. “I don’t have a boss. I am my own boss.”
